The Darkness of Day

Lyrical documentary that explores suicide and the inherent aspects of depression, mortality, isolation and connection. A series of anecdotes suggest the various ways suicide can be perceived, contemplated and enacted. Woven throughout the film are the journal writings of a friend’s brother who killed himself in 1990.

With a 25-year long career, Jay Rosenblatt is one of the most acclaimed American documentary filmmakers. Retrospectives on his work have been made in several festivals, he is is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Rockefeller Fellowship and has taught at different universities. This is the fifth time that one of his films takes part in Punto de Vista.
